What is Zumba?

Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class created in 2001 by Columbian fitness instructor, Beto Perez. Zumba incorporates Latin and international music and dance moves to create and exciting, fun, and effective fintess system. This system makes exercise fun--which is a new concept for a lot of us! The music, the dancing, the people, the atmosphere, all make Zumba class feel like a party! Zumba is "exercise in disguise" that will keep you coming back for more!

And you don't have to be a dancer to enjoy Zumba! The class is intended for veterans and beginners alike. Come expecting to move your body, enjoy the rhythms, work up a fantastic sweat, get in shape, and most of all--have fun!

What should I wear or bring to class?
Wear something comfortable that you can move in. In our classes you'll see everything from old t-shirts with basketball shorts to official Zumba clothing to lounge-wear. As long as you can move in it easily and you feel comfortable, it doesn't matter what it is. Make sure your shoes have plenty of cushion and lateral support. Running shoes often have tread that restricts side-to-side movement, so aerobics shoes, court shoes, and jazz sneakers are all good options. If you have old running shoes with worn tread, that can also work well.

Make sure and bring water! You should be working up a great sweat and you need to replace the water as you workout.

Also, if you continue coming to the class regularly, your instructor may ask you to bring minor supplement equipment--such as small hand weights, a broomstick, or a yoga mat; but don't worry about that if you're just coming to try out a class for the first time.
